Marathon chains for the gondolas on the Ericsson Globe
Task
Two glass gondolas running on rails on the outside of the largest spherical building in the world can take 16 people up to the viewing platform on top of the globe building for a breathtaking view over Sweden’s capital. High demands are placed on the chains for the complex mechanics that keep the gondolas perfectly in balance during the ride.
Solution
The engineers constructing Skyview had good reasons to decide for the high-quality Marathon chains made by Wippermann since only the highest quality of all components can guarantee reliable operational safety for the passengers and the operating company.
The passengers are taken to the top – with a chain that is merely eight metres long. Since February 2012 the visitors have been able to enjoy a really heavenly view from the Skyview on the Ericsson Globe.
Using the Marathon chain means there is no need for relubrication, and yet the durability of the chain is not restricted. Good prospects – and a good view, of course!
